Although we are all born with certain genes that predetermine the way and speed that our bodies age, there are certain lifestyle choices that we make that impact these genes. Scientists have carried out many studies that prove that the younger you look on the outside is linked to how your body ages on the inside.
A Nutritious Diet
A study carried out in 2012 showed that an extra three servings of fruit and vegetables a day made people look more attractive over a long period of time. One study suggests that when this increase is sustained over a six week period, there is a notable improvement in the attractiveness, as well as health, of the skin on the face. The study, carried out at St Andrews School of Psychology, also found that when participants ate a diet with less fruit and vegetables, their skin turned significantly paler.
Green Tea
In addition to the many antioxidants that green tea contains, it also contains anti-aging properties, in particular, ones that help the skin. Whether you drink the tea, or apply a topical product that contains extracts of green tea, your body will be able to hugely benefit from protection against inflammation, as well as protection against chemical and UV-induced carcinogenesis.
Fun Activities
Playtime is usually something that we reserve for children, and not many adults take the time to engage in activities purely for the fun and enjoyment. However, fun activities will make you smile and are likely to have you moving around, which helps with mental and physical declines that are due to aging. Whether you play games with other people, or just mess around on your own doing a fun activity, OROGOLD recommends making some time in your day to just play and have fun!
Beauty Sleep
Getting a restful sleep each night is hugely important when it comes to signs of aging. Improper sleep leads to fine lines, dull skin, and dark circles under the eyes. Without sufficient sleep, the body releases a hormone called cortisol, which can break down the collagen in the skin, when found in excess amounts, resulting in skin that is less elastic and smooth. A study carried out at Brigham and Women’s Hospital discovered that when a person gets five hours or less of sleep each night, it was the equivalent of them having aged by two extra years.
There are now many more studies being carried out on the different factors that have an impact on the body’s aging process. Although your genes do determine your aging process to an extent, there are many different choices that you can make when it comes to the way in which you live your life, and these can help to not only slow down the aging process, but also reverse some of the aging signs that may already have appeared. OROGOLD highly recommends paying special attention to your diet, as well as the amount of sleep that you get each night, and always be sure to take some time out from your busy day to engage in fun and playful activities, no matter what age you may be!
